The burdens on our communities' environment and health warrant taking a strong stand.
We're asking you to take a stand with us and Sign the Petition to Dump the Dump.
Scholl Canyon dump takes in Glendale's trash, NOT that of Los Angeles. Shipped entirely through Eagle Rock, it has polluted the air breathed by residents of Eastside L.A. for more than 50 years, in at least two ways: first in toxic dust and gas that come off the giant garbage pile; second in the gas it emits as it rots and decays over time. Northeast L.A. already ranks in the bottom-most tier of California communities for its poor air quality, heavily burdened by nitrogen oxides and both fine and coarse particles, which cause asthma, long-term damage, cancer. In the words of Glendale's own draft Environmental Impact Report, the dump expansion portends "significant unavoidable adverse impacts related to air quality" for our neighborhoods and that's before factoring in the dangerous and deadly diesel pollution in Eagle Rock and southwest Pasadena from diesel trucks entering the dump via its sole access from the south.
The timeline for community input on the dump was originally set to run out on July 31. Now the timeline has been extended to August 31. We have very little time to make our voice heard about the threats the dump expansion represents.

It’s obvious that Glendale doesn’t want all those trucks from Pasadena, Glendale and other cities going through their residential neighborhood and wrecking their quality of life. Yet there is a very long road that winds up the hill and ends at the golf course. There’s got to be a better way than passing that burden on to your neighbors, who must breathe the pollution and repair the road damage without relief. Please take responsibility for the environmental impact, noise and pollution. Or share the profits with us, at the very least. It’s the right thing to do.

This dump and its access road have negatively affected our neighborhood for years. It is time for Glendale and other communities to take responsibility for their own trash. Please close this dump as agreed in the original contract, and allow our community to reclaim the enjoyment of Scholl Canyon.

Expanding the Scholl Canyon dump is a bad idea; it is environmentally polluting and introduces health risks to local surrounding communities.

Dump is full. I watched that valley fill over my lifetime. Hundreds of feet high. Enough is enough.

Besides the environmental impact, this dump activity has ruined the “bucolic” charm of the area that surrounds our community & historic monument. It’s a travesty. That should be an “honored” location, & it is not by view of the dump road, ram-rodded through our hills, & the dump itself.
